What Professional Painters Handle
A quality painting crew manages the technical preparation that directly affects the finished result. At Highmark, our standard scope of work includes:
Surface cleaning and degreasing. Kitchen walls accumulate cooking grease. Bathroom walls collect soap residue and humidity deposits. These contaminants prevent paint adhesion and must be addressed before priming.
Sanding and smoothing. Previously painted surfaces get a light sand to create tooth for the new coat. Glossy surfaces, varnished trim, and areas with drips or runs from previous paint jobs receive more aggressive preparation.
Caulking gaps and seams. Gaps between trim and walls, around window frames, and along baseboards get fresh caulk for a clean, sealed finish line.
Priming. New drywall, repaired areas, stains, and color changes all require primer. Our crews use the appropriate primer type for each situation—stain-blocking, bonding, or drywall primer.
Protection. Drop cloths cover all floors and remaining furniture. Painter’s tape protects trim edges, window glass, and any surfaces not being painted. Hardware, lighting fixtures, and outlets get masked or removed.
