Why I started Highmark

I grew up in a household where work ethic wasn’t a slogan — it was the standard. You showed up. You did the job right. You honored your word. If you said you’d be there at 8, you were there at 7:55.

When I started hiring contractors for my own home, I kept running into the opposite. Late arrivals. Cut corners on prep. Phones stopped getting answered the moment a deposit cleared. Promises that quietly disappeared between the estimate and the final walkthrough. It wasn’t one bad experience — it was the pattern. And the more homeowners I talked to, the more I realized everyone in Tampa Bay had the same story.

Highmark exists to be the exception. The company I always wished I could hire.

Our promise

Our mission is simple, and we’ve put it on the wall of the shop:

What we say is what we do.

That’s the whole thing. Not a marketing line — a working standard every estimate, every job, and every crew member is held to. It shows up in small ways and big ones:

• The number we quote is the number you pay. No surprise change orders to pad the bill.
• The crew that walks the project with you on day one is the crew that finishes it.
• The arrival time we give you is the arrival time we hit. If something changes, you hear it from us first — not from a no-show.
• The prep work we describe in the estimate is the prep work we actually do. Surface prep is where most paint jobs are won or lost, and it’s where most contractors quietly cut corners.
• When we say a project will take five days, we don’t disappear on day four.
